Hello Barbara,

This is a really good post! As the present becomes the future, how do you anticipate thinhgs changing, as you alluded to in your last sentence? What can we, as human beings, expect? How will evolutionary theory account for these changes?

D

Evolutionary psychology theory is aimed at establishing how the human mind and behaviour has adapted for survival purposes. It uses the evolutionary theory which was proposed by Charles Darwin focusing on the physical adaptations that occurred due to the changes in the environment that was experienced and the need to survive (Lewis, et al, 2017). Evolutionary psychology focuses on the patterns in behaviour that have evolved through natural selection bringing about adaptive behaviours that are passed from one generation to the other.

However, human behaviour is complex in some aspects because of the other factors such as culture which dictate the morally acceptable behaviour. According to evolutionary psychology, human brain composes of many functional mechanisms known as evolved cognitive mechanisms or psychological adaptations which are as a result of the process of natural selection. The aspects that resonate with me as an individual in evolutionary psychology are that evolution not only sculpted the body but also the mind, psychological adaptations are important in solving problems for survival and these psychological adaptations are still activated in the modern society (Ellis, & Solms, 2017).

These aspects resonate with me at a personal level because the knowledge acquired from this theory establish my personal cumulative understanding of the psychological science. This is the unifying theory of life sciences and it’s understanding helps me learn more about the patterns of the human thinking and behaviours. The adaptations of various behaviours that I have observed are intelligence and also the increasing preferences of people when it comes to physical attraction. The changes in these two behaviours are likely to change in the next few decades, showing that the evolutionary psychology is in play in the today’s society.

My understanding of evolutionary psychology appreciates that the human mind is complex and is affected by many factors when it comes to thinking and behaviours. However, most of the behavioural traits and the way of thinking of individuals is passed from one generation to the other due to natural selection and survival mechanisms (Ellis, & Solms, 2017). Evolutionary psychology also has root in evolutionary biology and also cognitive psychology. Psychological adaptations influence the way that people associate with each other in a group and their desire to succeed in life.

The massive evidence supporting the impact of evolutionary psychology is most likely to convince object observers concern the behaviour of the human mind (Lewis, et al, 2017). It is also most likely that in future, the held beliefs on the human behaviour are likely to evoke scepticism. The evolutionary psychology theory is most likely to have a more impact on the future life than it does in the current society.r. M.
